is there anyone who doesn't walk into RH and just dream of living there? everything is stunning and well placed, the color scheme is a perfect neutral palette with natural textures and antiques, you feel like you've been transported to Europe.

but i find that not only is the price way out of my budget, many of the furniture pieces are large statement pieces that i don't have the room for. the size of their decor and furniture fits a specific type of home, i always imagine high ceilings, big and spacious rooms, with windows looking out to the countryside or someplace just stunning (aka not NYC traffic).

so when we first started to furnish our home, i took inspiration from RH, as well as other similar stores such as Arhaus. and in the process, found some really amazing similar items for those of us who want that rustic, weathered european style enveloped into our home decor style.

let's start with their most coveted item: the cloud couch... i've seen it primarily in white, but of course this item can be custom made in any texture or color. maybe someday i'll custom order my cloud but for now, there are many other options in varying price ranges that are similar to this cosy, comfortable, deep sofa.

LONSDALE SECTIONAL (1,402)

then there's the rustic wood rectangular dining table... there's one in particular i found in the outdoor section that had so much character; i just fell in love. Wayfair however, has one that's just as good and $2,000 less.

and of course we cannot forget the coffee table of our dreams..the Ballustrae Salvaged Wood Coffee Table. personally i really love this one from West Elm; it has the RH style and color. however, more similar options to the Ballustrae table can be found here and here.

ok now for the fun stuff! i LOVE the small decor pieces, the lighting and vases, rugs, the mirrors....

Zara Home is really having a huge moment right now. there are SO many good vases. i just bought this one and this one.

if you prefer a more modern vase like the RH clear vases, Ikea has beautiful ones. I have the large and medium sizes and use them all the time.

and is there anything better than the texture and inviting ambience of a layered faux fur throw or pillow? i've posted about these before, but i love mine from Pottery Barn. places like Home Goods and World Market have faux fur options too.

the rugs in RH are impeccable but again, pricey. i absolutely love Etsy for their rugs... there are all price ranges but this Turkish Oushak vintage rug is still thousands less than anything from RH, and (to be honest) i think it's nicer...

mirrors are a necessity for small spaces. it's incredible how much they open up a room. some of my favorites are

one thing i noticed a lot in the store were the shelving options. so many are the rustic wood with piping. honestly, you can find these all over the internet. Robb and I got ours from Wayfair. just google some rustic wood shelving and you'll come across lots of options.

a large aspect of the RH vibe is how it all gets put together: the colors, textures, placement of the mirror or vase or what's inside the vase... the hardware plays a large role too. i like to put together a mood board for a room before delving into purchases. i've gotten paint swatches to represent color schemes, sand paper, even hardware like locks or lettering to use for my mood board. it doesn't have to just be pictures of rooms you like.. that's what we have pinterest for :)

it's typically less expensive to purchase something recycled or up cycled. check out antique stores, estate sales, eBay and craigslist for decor and furniture. i've bought items and painted them, changed out hardware, sanded down wood... get creative and have fun!
