autumn in new york

yesterday was the first time i've put the heat on in my car since April...

there was no easing into pumpkin season this year, as soon as labor day set, the crisp weather arrived with every intention to stay.

with quarantine, it's been a challenge finding things to get excited for. most years, autumn comes a little too soon for my liking, but this year, i'm happily diving into football season, pumpkin beer in hand.

there are still linen blankets draped on our vintage ladder but aside from that, our fuzzy slippers have returned to the bedside, tobacco scented candles to our kitchen island; our vases full of peonies and lilies have been replaced with silver dollar eucalyptus and pompous grass and our plants have all been moved inside.

this weekend we decided to start on our halloween traditions... we curated our horror movie list of must sees before October thirty first, took our first trip to the farm for donuts & jams, scouted out some new decor at our favorite nursery & picked out the best three pumpkins at Stews for carving. although this year will be one without apple picking and trick or treaters... our candy bowls will be filled and pies will be made.

halloween is not cancelled...

our fall decor style is comprised of items Robb + I have collected over many years, some from other states, most of it vintage but almost everything has a dupe that can be found online. you won't find me spinning cobwebs around our front door or placing spiders along windowsills, but if you appreciate a minimalist, hygge vibe at this time of year, i think you'll love our inspiration for harvest season 2020.

this is my inspiration board for this year's fall vibes

we love decorating with natural elements and real pumpkins: all sizes and shapes and colors. my first stop is always our favorite plant nursery; we gather dried florals, pumpkins, & mums here. the next is always the flea market and local vintage stores for antique candle holders, vases, distressed wooden bowls and lanterns.

the natural elements are always the best items brought to the space in my opinion, so i always start there. if you're new here - i love anything pre-loved and old, especially at this time of year.

once these items are in place, i like to add in the fun halloween items - the skeletons, tombstones, etc.

get creative, find some inspiration on pinterest, make your own signs or paint your own pumpkins, build a dried floral wreath for your front door, whatever speaks to you.

if you are a tried and true die-hard online shopper, then here are a couple finds i love for this time of year:

happy fall ya'll!
