hand sanitizer is sold out everywhere, or it's being sold at astronomical prices online because the media has scared our entire nation with this coronavirus outbreak. although, the positive is that we are all doing what we should be doing everyday, and that is washing our hands, sanitizing when there isn't soap and a sink available, not touching our faces, and being mindful of our health. which means that other sicknesses that are prevalent during this season, are minimal compared to previous years.

to be honest, i love the hempz brand hand sanitizer, it's the only one i buy because of the moisturizing aspect that others lack and it smells incredible (i typically hate the smell of hand sanitizer). however just like all the others, my personal favorite is sold out everywhere. so i decided to make my own. and i must say, it came out almost as good so i'm going to share the deets here with you to prevent hours of scouring through stores and online sites and any mini freak outs from those who are still on the search.
you only need three things:
- 2/3 cup 99 percent rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or ethanol
- 1/3 cup aloe vera gel
- 8 to 10 drops essential oil
curious what oils you should add? eucalyptus, clove, cedarwood, lavender, patchouli, sandalwood, neroli, niaouli, cinnamon bark, lemon, rosemary, tea tree, lemongrass, myrrh, rose, peppermint, thyme, and pine oils are all options, you can even combine a couple.

some essential oils have more antiseptic properties such as cinnamon oil which is scientifically proven to be effective against infections such as E.coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and other antiobiotic-resistant forms of infection.
then just take a whisk or spoon and mix all the ingredients together, add it to an empty dispenser bottle & voila you have your own self made hand sanitizer!
for alcohol free hand sanitizer:
- 1/4 cup aloe gel
- 1/4 cup witch hazel
- 1 T apple cider vinegar
- 1 t vegetable glycerin
- 8-10 drops Thieves oil or Malaleuca alternifolia, also known as tea tree oil.
