add a little greenery

i love having plants throughout my home, from trees to small cuttings, dried flowers, succulents, and peonies. filling your space with nature can help improve mood and air quality; some are more beneficial than others. a famous Nasa experiment in 1989 found that some indoor plants could clear the air of cancer - causing volatile organic compounds such as formaldehyde and benzene.

best plants for increasing oxygen

Areca Palm

does well in filtered light

requires a lot of water

Snake Plant

known for nighttime oxygen production

very easy to care for. just set it by a window and water weekly

great plant for a bedroom

Money Plant

known to remove chemicals and pollutants from the air.

this plant is toxic to animals if they chew or eat the leaves so if you have furry friends, i wouldn't recommend this plant in your home.

Chinese Evergreens

emits high oxygen content

great low light option, this plant does well in the shade

ensure that the soil is almost moist

some of my favorite indoor plants + flowers

Orchids

these beautiful tall flowers are easy to care for, just put two ice cubes atop the soil every two weeks. they come in an array of sizes and colors.

Peonies

i typically see these in batches of threes in blue and in white. i always opt for the white, add a little baby's breath and some greenery and place them in a vase on my kitchen island.

Succulents

these are those little desert looking plants that typically come in planters that have rocks surrounding them. i love the small ones, i'll place them on windowsills, on top of books or as book ends. easy to care for, they require little water and medium sunlight. i usually include cacti in this category too; again so cute on a windowsill

Eucalyptus

always hanging from my shower head in my washroom. i am in love with the way it makes my entire bathroom smell. the watcher from the showered and the humidity from the bathroom keep this plant alive for many months before having to change it out. i've found a bunch will last longer if you remember to move the eucalyptus to a window with some water for 12-24 hours each week.

Philodendron

this is my absolute favorite plant, it is my baby. i was looking for an 'ivy plant, you know one that would hang and drape and get taller and taller. this plant was recommended to me, i bought a massive one and hung it under my skylight and it is taller than i am just in one year! not good for a smaller space, but beautiful. you can also buy smaller versions to have on a shelf to add some character and levels to your styling.

Ivy

just like the philodendron this is a hanging plant, it will grow vines that will drape ad weave and look absolutely stunning. be sure to plant this in a container that is wide and shallow rather than narrow and deep. and keep the pot in a spot that receives bright indirect sun.

Jasmine

i never thought i could have this plant living in New York. everything i had read explained that this plant thrives in tropical climates until i found the Jasminum polyanthum. this form of jasmine smells heavenly and does well in colder climates.

Inch Plant

this is another favorite, unfortunately mine is so big at the moment i cannot fit it in my current home so it stays with my parents. however, let me tell you, it is beautiful! this plant has a zebra like pattern in greens and purples.the vines will grow quickly so i recommend placing this plant in a hanging pot. the inch plant does well in dim light but the markings will fade... so try to keep it in medium to bright sunlight.

Fiddle Leaf Fig

it is hard to kill this one, i bought ours at Ikea and it is thriving. I constantly move our around to areas with direct sun and back to medium sun. i water him about once a week and he doesn't take up much space. what i like it this plant adds some dimension to my living area.

Palm Tree

i had to put him next, i have this baby next to my hanging hammock. in the summer months i like to put my palm outside two hours before sunset on a bright day to get a little more light. i water him weekly with the fiddle leaf fig. i will say, we have gone through two of these trees since July though.. not as easy to care for as the Fiddle Leaf Fig.

Yucca Tree

my boyfriend spotted this while we were in Ikea and it is his favorite tree in our home. it has stalks that stick out from the soil like thick sticks. Ours is technically called a Beachcrest home corn stalk Dracaena if you want to google it. they have similar ones in Home Depot I saw recently.

last but not least, the display!

planters

not sure what kind of planter to use or what will look good? i think it's easy to get caught up in the generic pots that have been around forever and ever, the ones stored in my moms garage.... anyway here are some of my favorite planters. there are many options for trees, flowers, succulents, anything you may need. planters can be expensive especially when purchased at a nursery or luxury home decor shop. however you can find beautiful options for reasonable prices! some of our favorites that we've bought are from Home Goods and Nordstrom Rack, TJ Max, and other thrift stores / flea markets.

here are some in my cart right now
